As a "regional centre", the city of Verviers is developing planning projects:
- a local urban development plan, master plans for the city centre and the banks of the Vesdre;
- investment projects: shopping centre, hotel, car parks, building and housing complexes, business parks, etc.
Objectives
1. Urban revitalisation of the northern part of Spintay Street following on from the ERDF projects:
- A housing development.
- Enhancement of historic alleyways.
- Creation of an urban park.
- Extension of existing business units.
- Urban development of the rear end of Spintay Street, leading into the Hodimont district.
2. Renovation of the Hodimont district by:
- Improving public spaces.
- Restructuring the islands by creating modern buildings that blend in with their surroundings.
- Ensuring the gradual renovation of damaged homes.
- Providing interaction between different sources of financing (the SUN project, ERDF, regional subsidies for renovation and revitalisation).
- Establishing perimeters of urban regeneration within the district.
- Enhancing the heritage of the neighbourhood.
- Creating links between the town’s business and shopping district and nearby neighbourhoods.
- Establishing a covered market.
3. Development of East Verviers by:
- Creating a science and technology park.
- Developing a skills training centre relating to water, food and sustainable construction.
- Setting up companies specialising in its urban areas.
- Converting disused factories into "loft" and "sustainable" housing units.
- Creating mixed economy development activities(Zaemer).
