From industrial city to connected city :
Are you looking for a space for your projects in a hyper-connected place?
You’ll find it at the ACEC site in Herstal
What is the ACEC site?
A total area of 264,000 m². Where? In the heart of the Meuse–Rhine Euroregion, one of the first Euroregions, with a current population of 3.9 million inhabitants and which includes the cities of Liège, Maastricht (Netherlands) and Aachen (Germany). Located in the city of Herstal, the site is directly connected to the Hauts-Sarts, the largest business park in Wallonia with its 468 companies and 10,015 jobs. (image carte)
At the ACEC site you will find a place in transition which bears witness to the transformation from industrial city to connected city with its gigantic industrial buildings and its agricultural plateau.
Urban agriculture serves the city’s transformation
In the past the ACEC site was home to a leading player in the Walloon economy. Today a new future is being drawn up for it, with the central ambition of bringing an innovative economic activity back to the site.
This ambition is made possible by the rich industrial heritage which lends itself to new life cycles, not only for the buildings but also for the open spaces.
These new life cycles will have the support of the VERDIR project and its two components; a Smart Box incubator composed of intelligent containers enabling sustainable food culture and the Tropical Plant Factory dedicated to the extraction of molecules for use in biotechnologies.
Carried out in partnership with the University of Liège, these projects are made possible with the development of a heating network which brings real leverage to the transformation of the whole site.
Thanks to these new life cycles the ACEC site will not only become a town within the town centred on research and work but also a lively and sociable place with all the necessary services.
The old railway line forms the backbone of this new part of town and provides the site with a structured path. The creation of the ACEC project offers an effective network between the strategic places of the city of Herstal.
The renovation of the ACEC site represents the passage from industrial city to connected city.
