From Industrial City to Urban Farming and Circular Ecodistrict :

Are you looking for a hyper-connected space for your projects? You'll find it at ACEC in Herstal.

The ACEC site is :

A total surface area of 264,000 m². Where is it? At the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. A leading region with a population of 3.9 million, including the cities of Liège (Belgium), Maastricht (Netherlands) and Aachen (Germany). Located in the town of Herstal, the site is directly connected to Wallonia's largest business park, Hauts-Sarts, with its 468 companies and 10.000 workers.

The ACEC site aims to become the national benchmark for the "circular economy" by transforming a heavy industrial town into a new eco-district integrating sustainable economic activities, urban agriculture and leisure activities, while rehabilitating industrial buildings with a high heritage value. This shared vision for the conversion of this exceptional site has been translated into the ACEC Masterplan.

In 2023 and 2024, the following projects are under completion: the creation of the Jardin Miroir, a large urban agricultural area in the heart of this former industrial site; the development of an outdoor business park themed "circularity" by SPI; and the commissioning of the urban heating network of the Liège metropolitan area, which offers the entire site the possibility of benefiting from green and circular energy at a controlled rate.

In the coming years, an indoor business park will be created by renovating and refurbishing an old industrial hall, the site will benefit from a new structuring connection for active modes of transport with the creation of the Low-Line, the roads will be completely renovated and re-equipped with high-performance distribution networks and new depolluted properties will be put back on the market to welcome new investors and economic, residential or leisure projects. These projects have been selected by Europe and Wallonia as part of the 2021-2027 ERDF programme.

Finally, the ACECs will be linked to the future extension of the Liège tramway, as well as to local and metropolitan cycle routes.
