Industrial sites reconversion :
The city of Seraing, in collaboration with the Walloon Region, which conducted, in 2021, a study on the future of the Arcelor Mittal sites in the Liège region, is studying the possibilities for reconversion of the three largest industrial sites on the territory.
1. The last remaining blast furnace (HFB) was finally shut down at the end of 2019
The site has a very high potential for the development of economic activities with a high growth capacity. Close to the Liege University and Science Park, the site is very accessible (roads, train, waterways, future tram).
The preservation of a part of the blast furnace for a tourist development with an industrial memory is currently being studied.
2. The coking plant site is being deconstructed by Arcelor Mittal
This site will be reconverted with new economic activities with high added value participating in the reconversion process of the city (high potential sectors, job creation, ...). For example, waste treatment and circular economy can be considered.
3. The site of the former blast furnace 6 (HF6)
Already dismantled by Arcelor Mittal, the site will be devoted to the creation of a new district including housing, services, shops and businesses. It will be crossed by the Urban Boulevard, the construction of which will begin in 2022 with the support of the ERDF.
