Namur Ryckmans:

We have submitted the permit for the reconversion of the Salzinnes swimming pool in Namur into a mixed-use program combining 75 student housing units, a 50-room hotel, 32 apartments, and a swimming pool. This red-brick building close to the Sambre riverside landscape is an asset to the area, and it is important to conserve it.

Here, we worked in reverse: nothing has been added—no extension was needed to accommodate this ambitious program. Instead, the volumes were hollowed out and simplified to preserve the essence of the existing structure. The logistical area previously dedicated to technical equipment was freed up to create a shared central courtyard. Landscaping will transform this area into a small urban park in the heart of the block. This garden provides an outdoor space and brings light into the building, offering dual exposure for the apartments. The roofs will be exploited to increase usable surface area without invading the exterior façades.
