European Industrial Park Brussels South Charleroi :

In March 2023, the Walloon Government adopted a new Territorial Development Plan designed to meet the future needs of Wallonia and its population. Its content includes a number of regional development and land-use planning objectives: spatial optimization, economic development, territorial attractiveness, quality management of the living environment, and mobility control. 

The plan proposes concrete measures aimed at, among other things: coherent management of land resources, the fight against artificialisation, and the recycling of Walloon soil through the reconversion of brownfield sites. It is in this context that the Charleroi-Gosselies site is currently the focus of attention. Located right in the heart of Charleroi, this site has been confirmed as an essential land reservoir for the realization of space optimization objectives in Wallonia, through coherent, shared future occupation. 

Beyond these multiple territorial qualities, the site is also targeted in the content of the Charleroi Metropolitan Area - Territory Project, defining it as a trigger for economic, ecological and social reconversion. The creation of « Société de Reconversion des Sites Industriels de Charleroi » (SORESIC SA) stems from the announcement, in September 2016, that Caterpillar would cease operations at the Gosselies site. In March 2017, the Walloon Government, decided to acquire the site; SORESIC was founded at the end of 2017, with, as its corporate purpose, the reconversion of the ex-Caterpillar site in Gosselies. In this context, SORESIC is looking to identify companies interested in setting up and running a long-term business on the 93-hectare site
