Grand Bazar Jemeppe:
Emblematic building of Jemeppe-sur-Meuse, listed in Wallonia’s inventory of cultural heritage, the “Grand Bazar” is being reconverted into 39 housing units. This 1954 building, featuring a modernist style, in light brick and concrete, is characterized by its curved form overlooking the Place des Quatre Grands, making it a true signal in the city.
The main challenge is to respect the building’s heritage value while providing high-quality housing.
To preserve its energy, the ground floor, protected by a white painted concrete shelter, will keep its commercial function while offering generous entrance halls.
The large, high-ceilinged first floor, with its vertical original openings along the curved façade, will remain the signature element of the building.
A rooftop extension will allow spacious terraces for the top-floor apartments.
The project provides a mix of housing typology on every floor, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments.
A shared 200 m² rooftop will be accessible to all co-owners.
